The Artist

Outside a movie premiere, enthusiastic fan Peppy Miller literally bumps into the swashbuckling hero of the silent film, George Valentin. The star reacts graciously and Peppy plants a kiss on his cheek as they are surrounded by photographers. The headlines demand: "Who's That Girl?" and Peppy is inspired to audition for a dancing bit-part at the studio. However as Peppy slowly rises through the industry, the introduction of talking-pictures turns Valentin's world upside-down.

SCOTT PILGRIM

The synergies between the film poster trailer and the film to Scott Pilgrim are very similar because, firstly the institutions that are included in the poster trailer and the film, secondly the clothes that the person is wearing in the picture is the same clothes that are used in the trailer and the film, this goes to show how he is as a person it also shows that he is playing his guitar without looking up. this is what geeks look like really, it also seems like he is in a band because in the poster trailer and film he acts like one. the colours that are used in this poster are also used in the trailer and the film for the title. The target market for this film would be tribe wired people from D-E range or maybe even teenagers who like this.

indiana jones

The sounds at the start before the images are very mysterious, scary and the crow sounds give it a better effect. After some images come, it starts sounding more adventurous.

The film seems really ancient after seeing people wearing dirty, old clothes running in a jungle.

There is more non- diagetic sounds in this which are sound effects and track, than diagetic which is usually just the actor speaking.

A lot of mid angle shots were used, probably to catch the audiences eyes
the music is also pitched high at random times which makes it sound like its important,or signs of danger. the drums sound like and unfriendly tribe.

audience in film- dramedy

The audience for Dramedy films is a genre that has a dramatic tone yet important elements of comedy. In Dramedy film, the amount of drama and comedy are almost equally balanced. This balance provides comedic relief for the audience, while still addressing serious issues.

West Is West- Comedy Drama

West Is West- Comedy Drama
West is west was filmed in Bradford in England and Punjab near Chandigarh, a city in the north of India.
this film has a lot of mid legnth shots.
An immigrant father decides to take his truant son back to the old country because hes doesnt know himself anymore.
I like this film because it shows that racism should not be accepted in any part of the country, however i dislike it because it can get annoying.
Manchester, North of England, 1975. Khan family continues to struggle for survival.
Sajid, the youngest Khan, the runt of the litter, is deep in pubescent crisis under heavy assault both from his father's tyrannical insistence on Pakistani tradition, and from the fierce bullies in the schoolyard.
So, in a last, desperate attempt to 'sort him out', his father decides to pack him off to Mrs Khan No. 1 and family in the Punjab, the wife and daughters he had abandoned 35 years earlier. It is not long before Ella Khan (Mrs Khan No. 2) with a small entourage from Salford, England, swiftly follows to sort out the mess, past and present.

Newspaper Evaluation Project- The Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper was founded by Arthur B. Sleigh in June 1855 and since 2004 has been owned by David and Frederick Barclay.
the intended audience for this newspaper is older adults and old people because younger people wouldnt like reading it as it has complicated words and the topics are not interesting enough for youngsters.
The news values that are on this front page is negativity, bad news about a five year old girl who has been kidnapped.
The Mid shots in the middle stand out a lot because they're at eye level and thats what would catch the readers attention first then they'd read whats there about the picture.

daily star

This newpaper is has negativity included in it, the part about simon cowell, it also kind of has closeness to home because theres a section about football, and its chelsea vs wolves.
this also has personality included in it.

Sub Genre - Comedy Romance- No Strings Attached.

Comedy Romance- No Strings Attached.

Rom-Coms are less serious than other genres and they tend to have a happy tone/atmosphere.
In rom-coms' they use songs as background music because its more happier and jokey.
Romantic comedies are usually set in big, well known cities such as london because everyone knows about it.
Normally the conclusion f this film is happy, the two main characters getting back together. The two main characters in the film are likely to be of different social classes.
The narrative that can be observed in a romcom has a typical three part structure.
A boy and a girl will meet, and for some reason, they will be torn apart.
Throughout the film, they will realise that they are meant to be together, and try and back to each other. In the film, although it might not be a happy, the characters will meet again and work out went wrong between them.
I have chosen the film called No Strings Attached to review, this is a romantic comedy.
A guy and girl try to keep their relationship strictly physical, but it's not long before they learn that they want something more.
It may seem like a serious movie but it has comedy in it which makes it less serious.
this film is good because its interesting and it makes you want to watch it more however its not good because it s not as funny as youd expect it to be.

Perfumes

Chanel

·         This advert is set in a posh train, this shows that it is fancy looking and the woman in it could possibly be rich, living a luxurious lifestyle.

·         She is posing in a slim dark dress which makes her look elegant and attractive, which could be trying to tell you that this perfume will make you feel attractive and stuff.

·         This woman is looking out of a big window; she could possibly be looking at someone or showing off to someone trying to attract them.

·         The lighting and colors in this image is very dull but then again, it looks like there’s a spotlight on the woman. The perfume bottle shows it’s for rich people.

Nina Ricci

·         This Nina Ricci advert is all about apples, there are lots of apples on the floor which are just left there and the perfume that’s shaped as an apple stands out the most.

·         These apples could possibly signify fruitiness, so the smell of the perfume could be nice and fruity, natural and also sweet.

·         The lighting and colors are very bright, outdoor, light and wintery to make the viewers think that maybe even outside in the winter, the smell of the perfume will stay.

·         The woman is looking at the perfume in an amused way to show that she likes it, or it’s really nice.

·         The tree has crystals on instead of leaves; this could show that this perfume could be for rich people and the perfume is worth a lot.

·         The colour scheme is just light colors maybe to make the perfume bottle stand out, as it is a bright colour.

·         The tagline on this makes it all seem like a fairytale.

Comparison

·         These two adverts are similar because they both seem like they’re aimed at rich people with a luxurious lifestyle they both have different things that show this e.g. the Chanel one is located in a posh train and the Nina Ricci one has crystals in there.

·         Another similar feature is that both of these adverts have a model that’s looking away from the camera this gives a good effect because they’re looking away its different to hat people normally do, looking straight at the camera .

·         A difference is that the Chanel advert has a darker and duller colour scheme; it reminds me of titanic a bit however the Nina Ricci one is a lot brighter and lighter it gives a glowy effect.

·         Another difference is that the Chanel perfume seems more of an Indoors perfume for like balls and functions whereas the Nina Ricci advert seems more of an outdoors perfume for outdoor parties or maybe just meeting someone, going out.

film genre

FILM GENRE-Insidious

Insidious has a genre of a horror/thriller movie. This movie is based on a little boy, who a demon has got hold of. And he won’t let him go.
The conventions for this would be for it to have scary/creepy sounds in it. Horror movies haven’t really changed a lot over the years, only a bit. They have changed because they know that they want their audience to be scared do they made their films scarier every time so the audience get attracted. The conventions that the audience expects to see are that they get scared, and there are a few scenes in there that give you a shock maybe, they expect there to be a ghost or some kind of spirit in the film too.

Horror films often deal with the audiences nightmares, hidden fears.
People also get scared of ghosts, aliens, vampires, werewolves, curses, satanism, demons, gore, torture, vicious animals, rs, zombies, cannibals, and serial killers

Most horror films have like a set of conventions all the way through the genre such as; dark shadowy  lighting to give an effect of a scary atmosphere,
Isolated places to creep the audience so it seems like its quiet and theyre alone,
Female victims because they are easy to scare and a defeat of a monster which would be the main part of the film.

The Language Of Film.

Extreme Long Shot.
This shot can be taken from about a quarter of a mile away.
It shows an exterior, for example;a landscape, or the outside of a building,
This shot is often used for a thrilling scene like in a war or a disaster film. An extreme long shot will hardly have detail in it but it's supposed to just give a general impression instead of detailed info.
Extreme Long Shot showing Hollywood sign

Long Shot.
This shot is the one that shows the image as approx "life" size. This includes the full shot showing the whole human body, with the head near the top of the frame and the feet near the bottom.
The small amount of room above and below the subject can be thought of as safety room you don't want to be cutting the top of the head off.
.

Medium Shot.
This shot has a figure from the knees/waist up and is used for dialogue scenes most of the time, or to show some detail of action. The background detail is basic, probably because location has been organised beforehand.
Medium shot of a street musician

Close Up.
In the closeup shot, a certain feature or part of the object or person takes up almost all of the picture. A close up of a person usually means a close up of their face.Close-ups are obviously useful for showing detail.
Close Up

Extreme Close-Up.
An extreme close up is basically magnifying more than what the human eye would see in reality, eg, An extreme close-up of a face, would show only the mouth or eyes, with no background detail. This can be used for dramatic effect.
Extreme Close up of a cat's eye

Dutch Tilt.
A Dutch tilt is a camera shot where the camera angle is purposely slanted to one side. This can be used for dramatic effect.
Dutch Tilt Shot

Weather Shot.
In this type of shot the subject is the weather. The sky takes up at least 2/3 of the frame. This type of shot is common in television programs.
A weather shot doesn't have to show the sky. Other shots often have:
  • Puddles, drain spouts or any example of rainwater flow.
  • Trees or anything else blowing in the wind.
  • People sunbathing etc...

Snow

Over The Shoulder Shot(OSS).
This shot is taken from behind a person who is looking at the subject.
This shot is often taken when two people are in a conversation.
over-the-shoulder shot

Noddy Shot.
Sometimes in interviews, this is a shot of the person listening and reacting to the subject. In fact, when shooting interviews with one camera, the usual routine is to shoot the subject (using OSS and one-shots) for the entire interview, then shoot some noddies of the interviewer once the interview is finished. The noddies are edited into the interview later.
one-shot

Two Shot.
There are a few variations on this one, but the basic idea is to have a comfortable shot of two people. Often used in interviews, or when two presenters are hosting a show.
